Greetings! I am David Caramelo, a 22-year-old Marketing Management student at Nhl Stenden University in Emmen, Netherlands. I am currently in my first year of studies and have had the pleasure of collaborating with some amazing individuals since starting my journey at Nhl Stenden. My initial arrival at the university was a pleasant surprise. I didn't expect such a warm reception and was relieved to find that I didn't feel excluded as an international student. One of the highlights was the option to spend three days with older students during the "studie start week", which provided me with invaluable insights into the university and what to expect for the remaining four years of my studies. It was a helpful experience that gave me a better understanding of my academic journey ahead.

During my personal interview with Ms. Maysun Bega, my study coach, we discussed my personal aspirations and future plans. She asked me questions about my well-being and how I was coping with the tasks we had to complete. It was a valuable experience as I was able to speak with someone who could provide guidance and support in achieving my goals. Her feedback and advice were incredibly helpful in navigating my academic journey.

Experience my country
This was the event that experiencing my country in which the choice was Portugal, was an event of 1:20 hours in which students and teachers could experience a little of Portuguese gastronomy and what it is to be Portuguese

This project was done in a group of 3, Lukas lauskiss, Catarina Sandu, and David Caramelo, for the article an article was written by me the article "Low cost - high profit", it was the first article I ever wrote, the article talks about how one of the biggest low-cost gym chains manages to make so much money and be the biggest in Europe, it was a project that took me 6 days to write and collect information
Workshops
Throughout this year, we were assigned numerous tasks that required effort both inside and outside of class hours, including workshops. Each task was designed to help us progress and grow, pushing us out of our comfort zones. These challenges were not always easy, but they were instrumental in our personal and academic development.
These tasks provided opportunities for hands-on learning, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. They encouraged us to think creatively, work collaboratively, and develop resilience in the face of challenges. While they may have been demanding at times, they were essential in sharpening our skills and preparing us for future success.
As we reflect on these experiences, we can see how much we have grown and how our capabilities have expanded. We are proud of the progress we have made and are motivated to continue pushing ourselves to achieve even greater heights in our academic journey.

Project: Experience Event
For the second project we orginize an event in Groningen that showcased the city's landmarks and culture. Started with a group tour, visiting Martini Tower and Groningen Museum, with icebreakers and activities. Ended the day with ice skating for a fun and engaging experience. Proud of the event and looking forward to organizing more in the future.

Me and my group recently organized an event in Groningen that was all about showcasing the city and having fun at the same time. The event involved taking a field trip around Groningen, visiting some of its most iconic landmarks, and in the end, going ice skating!
We started the day by meeting up with everyone at a central location in Groningen. From there, we split up into groups and began our tour of the city. We visited some of the most well-known attractions, such as the Martini Tower and the Groningen Museum, and learned about the rich history and culture of the city.
As we explored the city, we made sure to keep things lively and engaging, with fun activities and icebreakers to keep everyone energized and connected. We also made sure to leave plenty of time for taking photos and enjoying the scenery.
After our tour of the city was complete, we headed to the ice rink for some fun on the ice. It was a great way to cap off the day, with everyone laughing and having a blast as they skated around the rink.

Helios Society
I am currently a member of a school society that focuses on a particular area of interest or activity. As a member, I have the opportunity to connect with like-minded students, participate in events and activities, and develop my skills and knowledge in my chosen area.
Being in a school society has provided me with a sense of community and belonging on campus. It has allowed me to meet new people and make friends who share my interests and passions. Additionally, being a part of a society has given me the chance to develop my leadership skills by taking on responsibilities and helping to organize events and activities.
Project: Product Innovation
​Our innovation is a Fitbit-like device for animals that provides owners with real-time health and activity data for their pets. This device attaches to the animal's collar and uses sensors to track their movements, heart rate, and other important health metrics. The data is then transmitted to a mobile app, where owners can view their pet's activity levels, set fitness goals, and receive notifications if their pet's behavior or health indicators suggest a potential problem. This innovation allows pet owners to better monitor and understand their animal's health, and take proactive measures to keep them happy and healthy
FIT-PET
Our innovation is an animal collar device that incorporates Fitbit-like technology to monitor and track the health and activity of pets. The device is designed to be lightweight and attach easily to any collar or harness, making it comfortable for the animal to wear. The sensors in the device are capable of monitoring a range of health and activity data including heart rate, steps taken, distance traveled, sleep quality, and calories burned.
All the data collected by the device is transmitted wirelessly to a companion mobile app that is available for download on both iOS and Android devices. The app provides pet owners with real-time access to their animal's health and activity data, as well as personalized health and fitness recommendations based on the animal's breed, age, and activity levels. The app also allows pet owners to set customized activity goals for their pets and track their progress over time.
The innovation uses artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze the data collected from the sensors and provide insights and alerts to pet owners. The AI can detect changes in the animal's behavior or health indicators, such as a sudden drop in activity or an irregular heartbeat, and send notifications to the owner, prompting them to take action if necessary. This feature can help pet owners identify potential health problems early on, allowing them to seek veterinary care and prevent more serious issues from developing.

I recently did a professional photoshoot featuring myself as the subject. The shoot was designed to showcase my skills, personality, and unique style through a variety of poses, expressions, and settings. The shoot took place in Matthijs bakker studio, where we used high-quality lighting and equipment to capture stunning images.

Recently,i participated in a workshop that focused on building a strong LinkedIn presence to enhance my professional brand and network. The workshop was led by Klinken van, Dirk who provided insights and best practices on how to optimize my LinkedIn profile and leverage the platform for career advancement.

I participated in a class on privacy in the internet. The class was designed to educate students on the importance of protecting their personal information online and to provide strategies for doing so.

Etiquette rules
In this workshop we had a formal day, in which we had to wear a suit for the occasion, and the objective was to learn some etiquette rules to use in formal company moments

On the 28th of October, there was a competition between some students from NHL Stenden, in which the goal was to make the best promotional video for Emmen, in which my group took first place

Communicative
I have consistently prioritized reporting any issues that result in my absence from work, as I consider it crucial to ensure the well-being and smooth project organization within my team. In Helios, effective communication plays a vital role in achieving success, and it is essential that we maintain open channels of communication to relay all pertinent information. As the leader of the market division, I bear increased responsibility for fostering effective communication within the team.
Collaboration
I have consistently found it effortless to adapt to various environments, which has been a significant advantage. Additionally, my unwavering honesty and open-mindedness have proven to be valuable traits in any setting. I had the opportunity to put these qualities to the test during the first and second projects, and they contributed to successful outcomes. Furthermore, I took the initiative to assist in a Helios event that was beyond my assigned responsibilities at the time. As a self-proclaimed "rookie" eager to acquire additional skills, I aimed to position myself for future leadership roles.
Responsibility
Since the beginning, i always tried to keep my work organized in every aspect, for me organizing is very important for work and personal life, keep the things organize in a group project is very important as well,The work will come out smoother and there won't be so much stress
Cultural awareness
One of our initial group assignments was a fun challenge. We had to find similarities between two completely different countries, and I teamed up with a student from Malaysia. Despite the contrasting nature of Portugal and Malaysia, we sharpened our research skills and successfully completed the assignment.
In our third project, we organized a trip to Groningen with a diverse set of customers from Vietnam, Ukraine, Spain, Latvia, Germany, Portugal, and France. This global mix added an exciting element to our work as we accommodated various cultural backgrounds and preferences. It was a professionally rewarding experience, creating unforgettable memories.
Curiosity
Since my arrival in Emmen, I've had a strong appetite for learning. Everything has been so new and exciting for me. I've been soaking up knowledge about the country, the culture, the language, and much more. Initially, I was quite introverted, particularly due to the ongoing challenge of communicating in English. I preferred to listen and observe before attempting to speak. However, with time, I've grown more comfortable expressing myself verbally. My next goal is to learn to speak Dutch.
Additionally, I've always been curious about the world of filmmaking. Luckily, I had the opportunity to join a team consisting of two seasoned professionals with extensive experience in this field. Collaborating with them allowed me to develop and refine my skills in the realm of filmmaking. It has been a valuable and fulfilling experience for me.
Adaptability
In the first week of classes we had a Nhl stenden program called "study start week", that same week I managed to meet my new classmates and my new professors, I also managed to meet a lot of people from the university and become friends with them, I managed to adapt to me good and fast, which was something I feared from the beginning
Creativity
My creativity was crucial to the success of two recent projects. I won a competition for a marketing video of Emmen by developing an engaging concept, and I organized a successful ice skating event in Groningen by using my creativity to design a fun and functional event. My ability to think outside the box and come up with fresh ideas made a significant impact on both projects, resulting in successful outcomes that I am proud of.
Initiative
I was proud to take the initiative and build a prototype of a fit pit for pets as part of the third project. Recognizing the need for a healthy outlet for pets to stay active, I took it upon myself to design and construct the prototype from scratch. This required research and experimentation to ensure the final product met the needs of both pets and their owners. I worked tirelessly on this project, and the end result was a functional and innovative prototype that impressed both my professors and peers. My initiative and dedication to this project demonstrated my ability to take on challenges independently and produce high-quality work.
Critical thinking
In the second instance, as part of our English lessons in period 2, our class engaged in a debate activity. The class was divided into two groups, each assigned a specific opinion to defend. Through thorough research and discussions, we were expected to present and defend our assigned opinion. Despite personally disagreeing with the opinion I was assigned, I demonstrated objectivity by setting aside my personal biases.
In a similar context, during my tenure as a member of the Helios Society, I was tasked with debating an online strategy with my team members. Specifically, we were brainstorming ideas to effectively engage a larger audience for an upcoming event. By carefully analyzing various strategies, we aimed to devise a plan that would successfully attract more participants to the event.

I would like to present an evaluation form filled out by Jesse Kroes, a team member from the third FitPet project, which I had the privilege of chairing. Working with this group, comprising Melany Illanes, Zoe Bruck, and Jesse Kroes, was a highly enjoyable experience, characterized by effective communication and strong leadership from my end.
Furthermore, I would like to highlight my exemplary communication skills within the HELIOS SOCIETY as the leader of the marketing team. The following excerpt exemplifies one of the most significant events organized by Helios in Limbo.
Commercial awareness
I place a high value on staying up-to-date on the latest news, particularly in areas related to technology and consumer trends. To achieve this, I maintain an account with Observador, a Portuguese news platform that provides comprehensive coverage of current events. Additionally, I recently created a LinkedIn account to network with professionals and stay informed on industry trends. This commitment to staying informed has been essential in my personal and professional growth, allowing me to make informed decisions and stay ahead of the curve in a rapidly changing world.

The first three months of the school year have been truly amazing for me. Many things were unexpected, and I was pleasantly surprised by everything, from the university to the city of Emmen. Despite being a small town, Emmen has immense potential, and I have been welcomed warmly by both the Dutch community and my international teachers and colleagues.
I am fully aware that this is just the beginning of a remarkable journey, and I am prepared to face the challenges that lie ahead. I am excited to embrace new experiences and opportunities, and I am confident in my ability to navigate this path with determination and resilience. I am eager to continue making the most of my time at the university and in Emmen, and I look forward to the growth and learning that await me in the coming years.

From the beginning i had a few of interviews with my study coach to discuss my academic progress, goals, and challenges. The interviews were designed to provide with personalized guidance and support to help me to succeed with my studies.
During the interviews, i had the opportunity to discuss my academic strengths and weaknesses, set goals, and develop strategies for overcoming any challenges i may be facing. my study coach provided with feedback and advice on study techniques, time management, and organizational skills to help me improve my academic performance.
Overall Reflection
This past year has been transformative for me, both on a personal and professional level. I have experienced significant growth, not only as a person but also as a skilled professional. The challenges I faced and the opportunities I embraced have contributed to my personal development, allowing me to broaden my horizons and discover new capabilities within myself. Professionally, I have pushed my boundaries, honed my skills, and expanded my expertise. This growth has propelled me forward, equipping me with the confidence and knowledge to take on new challenges and excel in my chosen field. I am proud of the progress I have made and excited about the continued journey of personal and professional growth that lies ahead.
